My adventure begins back in the spring of 2021, when I met a man through a couple of friends, Nick and Kelsey. I refer to him as the “Old Man”. I met someone that has a love for carpentry and wood as I do. “The Old Man ” started at 8 yrs. Old in construction and received a degree in Carpentry on his G.I. Bill and retired from the Carpenters Union. After many conversations, he decided that I needed help with the issues concerning the building of my log cabin. So, we began to frame out the Loft flooring of my cabin. He observed I own a portable Sawmill.
Over the course of the summer, we began talking about his home in Arkansas. He began describing to me what was on his property there. Oh my gosh, I started to feel the excitement of milling hard wood that you can’t find in Colorado, primarily Aromatic Red Cedar, Walnut, Cherry, Hickory and of course a variety of Oak. We began tossing ideas back and forth about the possibility of Me traveling to Arkansas with the Mill. Mind you, I haven’t had the Mill out of Indian Mountain since I bought it in 2018. After many discussions, I settled on an offer.
So, here I am in Arkansas milling the most BEAUTIFUL wood I have ever seen. The aroma of the red cedar is incredible. Think cedar chest and the entire woods smell like it every time we cut one down. The feel of the boards are without a single doubt, absolutely the most incredible experience I have ever had. When I look at the boards coming off the mill, I see virtually endless possibilities in the use of this lumber. Let me say this, I haven’t found this type of Red Cedar anywhere else in the size and length that I am seeing now. And by the way, I am having a difficult time pricing it, as there is NO comparable cedar in the lumber market that can even compare it to.
